Physicians in Selma enjoy a thriving career in a community that is growing, have wide open opportunity with plenty of business, little HMO penetration, a culture of appreciation and admiration from patients, and extremely low costs to practice.  Keeping outside stress to a minimum results from no traffic problems to and from work, our doctors frequently go home for lunch or pick up kids after school, plus they have the commitment of support from Vaughan RMC – a flagship hospital within Lifepoint Corporation, a 50+ hospital company, and its resources.

Because the cost of living may be as low as anywhere in the country, a physician can live his or her dreams here, and accessibility is important, too.  For instance, owning a private plane can be much more expensive, and a hassle with high storage costs and having to wait behind other traffic – not at our airport in Selma.  It’s the same with boating, parking, and getting to and from work.  And when you are not waiting, or rushing, there is tranquility about life.

Dr. Freij came to Selma from Detroit (he was Chief Resident of Neurology in 1995), in 1996, acquired US citizenship, and then went back to Wayne State for his fellowship in Sleep Medicine in 1998.  With no restrictions on his next choice to live and continue his career, he returned – it was an easy decision.

He was voted to be the Chairman of Medicine Department between 1999-2000, then was asked to take the directorship of the Sleep Laboratory and has been in that position since. The Sleep lab has been through 2 re-accreditation site visits and passed successfully. During the last site visit this year the Sleep Laboratory was upgraded to a Sleep Center fully accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
