Our Physicians – Caregivers
of Dallas County
The career and life with your family that you dreamed about is
waiting for you in our Selma
Physicians in Selma will enjoy a thriving
career in a community with compelling growth prospects and “wide
open opportunity” with plenty of business, little HMO penetration,
a culture of appreciation and admiration from patients, and an
extremely low cost to practice. Work and your responsibility is
stressful enough – here there is no traffic problems or commute,
our doctors frequently go home for lunch or pick up kids after
school, and they have the commitment of support from Vaughan Regional
Medical Center – a flagship hospital within LifePoint Corporation
(NAS:LPNT), a 50+ hospital company, and its resources.
Because our cost of living
may be as low as anywhere in the country,
you can “live your dreams” here and own an ornate antebellum
mansion for what your peers may pay for a small condo in an urban
setting; some of our doctors own private planes they keep at Craig
Field, boats, and beach houses in Gulf Shores – just three
hours.
- Selma is also entering a compelling period with
renovations happening in our community and along historic Water
Ave to bolster capitalizing on Tourism.
- There is unique
opportunity here that may not be available in large cities; for
instance, franchise rights in urban areas and suburbs are already
sold. There may be a building for sale Downtown that would make
for a good investment while to contribute to making your town
better. Building and business permits can take a long time in
large cities – not
here in our community.
However, if expanding business interests
is not for you and you simply want a career focused on the business
of medicine and on compassionate care, with a “value
lifestyle” and
no outside stresses in a community with history, charm, and real
character, we are also for you!
Meet Our Chief of Staff – Dr. Mark LeQuire
"Selma is large enough to accommodate
and small enough to appreciate. Whereas in Charlotte I routinely
drove
an hour to work, now I have no commute. Running errands
is infinitely easier. Recreational and the large city
activities
in Montgomery are easily accessed."

Moving
to Selma from Charlotte to what he calls “an
overall far better career
opportunity and lifestyle,” Dr. LeQuire discusses

More Physician Perspectives – Get to
know numerous Vaughan Physicians and their opinions
(Note: our doctors are from across the United States, international,
as well as different cities in Alabama. If you are a physician
or medical professional considering a new position, no matter
where you are from you can rest assured that you will fit in
here and be welcomed!)
“We have enjoyed
a great family life here and our kids have received well-rounded
educations. We take trips to the coast, Birmingham, and have
travelled extensively. We have close access to all that we want
with Montgomery and Birmingham very accessible, but there’s nothing like
the relaxation that you get here, with down to earth and unrushed
neighbors.” - Shane Lee, MD
“While working in a big
city was fine, I found that over the weekend my friends and I always
looked to get away. Here I do it in reverse – I enjoy peace
and quiet after days of working with the big cities and their amenities
available to me whenever I choose. And now that I have kids, I
wouldn’t want them exposed to much of what is in and around
urban centers.” - Walid Freij, MD
“I have been encouraged by the
hospital’s recruitment of new physicians to Selma. The young
physician base is drawn here because we see Selma offering a nice
balance of work and living – Selma has its own identity.
The commercial malls and restaurants are close enough to enjoy
regularly but we haven’t grown so fast that you don’t
recognize your neighbors. The physician base also mirrors the community
very nicely.” - Bruce Taylor,
MD
“A broad patient base and
a chance to practice real medicine. Everything is less here – from
insurance to low HMO penetration. The presence of the residency
program here is a plus. I can stay on the cutting edge of information
and technology while practicing in the trenches.” -
John Mitchell, MD

Selma Growth Study –
For physicians seeking practice
opportunities, knowing about our economy and our plans should
be extremely important to you. Community leaders have created “Team
Selma” to combine the abilities and resources of the Economic
Development Board, Tourism, and the Chamber of Commerce. We’re
growing, and as of 2010, millions of dollars are being spent
to revitalization of our Waterfront district in Downtown Selma,
an Interpretive Center, Riverfront Park with amphitheater and
marina, as well as renovation of our historic Bloch Park and
football stadium.
Jim Hodo is President of American
Apparel, which was awarded a $50 million contract by the US
Military,
with Wayne Vardaman, president of the Centre for Commerce
and Executive Director of our EDA
It’s not just urban and suburban escapees coming to Selma
for our perfect lifestyle, geography, cost-of living, and easy-access
to amenities without the big-city problems. Wired for fiber optics,
a mature railway, sewer and water, an industrial park with a 10,000’ airstrip
for the largest planes which was a former military station, and
cheap land, are factors laying the foundation for a modern renaissance
of Selma as “the perfect spot” to live and work. Be
sure to view our Growth Study section.
- Compelling “ground
floor opportunities:” In some physician specializations
there is a compelling open frontier of opportunity to begin a
successful practice that serves a broad region and patient population,
with little HMO penetration or competition. Now may be the best
time to establish a long-term, highly successful career and life
with us.
- Expand your wealth: Selma is also still open for
franchise opportunity and for people with investment means to
grow their investment portfolio in create ways. If you choose
a large urban center, the likelihood of being able to buy a restaurant
franchise or other unique business might be long-gone as rights
to them have been reserved long ago. There are also opportunities
to renovate historic homes and buildings to not just sell but
also contribute to making your hometown more beautiful. If you
are a business-minded physician, allow us to introduce you to
community leaders who will support your efforts.
- As of
2010, Selma qualifies for a federal program
that provides local employers tax breaks and incentives – we will be happy
to refer you to Wayne and our Centre for Commerce principals!
