Our Physicians
Selected Caregivers of Dallas County

Modern physician offices
along medical center parkway
Physicians in Selma enjoy a thriving career in a community
that is growing, have wide open opportunity with plenty of business,
little HMO penetration, a culture of appreciation and admiration
from patients, and extremely low costs to practice. Keeping
outside stress to a minimum results from no traffic problems to
and from work, our doctors frequently go home for lunch or pick up
kids after school, plus they have the commitment of support from
Vaughan RMC – a flagship hospital within Lifepoint Corporation,
a 50+ hospital company, and its resources.

Because the cost of living may be as low as anywhere in the
country, a physician can live his or her dreams here, and
accessibility is important, too. For instance, owning a private
plane can be much more expensive, and a hassle with high storage
costs and having to wait behind other traffic – not at our airport
in Selma. It’s the same with boating, parking, and getting to and
from work. And when you are not waiting, or rushing, there is
tranquility
about life.
Are you seeking
a career focused not just on “the business of medicine,” but also on
“compassionate care giving,” a “value lifestyle with little outside
stresses” and a community with history, charm, and real character?

Lonnie Felton, MD
2008-2009 Chief of Staff
(with
COO Cherie Sibley)
"I invite you to carefully look through our presentation with your family members you can email it
to your extended family as well. This 'virtual visit' covers more than you could on a real interview and
extends to how we easily enjoy amenities in Montgomery and Birmingham as part of our lives. Take the time
to look into the details of the presentation, which was designed for your needs. On behalf of the many
doctors and employees of the hospital, we look forward to the possibility of meeting you as a candidate."
Physician Perspectives:
“We have enjoyed a great family life here and our kids have received
well-rounded educations. We take trips to the coast, Birmingham,
and have travelled extensively. We have close access to all that we
want with Montgomery and Birmingham very accessible, but there’s
nothing like the relaxation that you get here, with down to earth
and unrushed neighbors.”
-
Shane Lee, MD
“I have been encouraged by the hospital’s recruitment of new
physicians to Selma. The young physician base is drawn here because
we see Selma offering a nice balance of work and living – Selma has
its own identity. The commercial malls and restaurants are close
enough to enjoy regularly but we haven’t grown so fast that you
don’t recognize your neighbors. The physician base also mirrors the
community very nicely."
-
Bruce Taylor, MD
"A broad patient base and a chance to practice real medicine.
Everything is less here – from insurance to low HMO penetration. The
presence of the residency program here is a plus. I can stay on the
cutting edge of information and technology while practicing in the
trenches."
-
John Mitchell, MD
“…it seems clear that the income opportunity and low insurance is
evident in the financial package I was guaranteed, as well as the
added attraction of the low cost of housing and living, which keeps
more in my pocket.” - John Park, MD
"Selma is large enough to accommodate and small enough to
appreciate. Whereas in Charlotte I routinely drove an hour to work,
now I have no commute. Running errands is infinitely easier.
Recreational and the large city activities in Montgomery are easily
accessed."

Mark LeQuire, MD

“While working in a big city was fine, I found that over the weekend my
friends and I always looked to get away. Here I do it in
reverse – I enjoy peace and quiet after days of working, with the
big cities and their amenities available to me whenever I choose.
And now that I have kids, I wouldn’t want them exposed to much of
what is in and around urban centers.”
Walid W. Freij, MD
Neurology
Neurology Consultants of Central Alabama
Director of Sleep Lab
Chairman of Medicine
Dr. Freij came to
Selma from Detroit
(he was Chief Resident of Neurology in 1995), in 1996, acquired US
citizenship, and then went back to Wayne State for his fellowship in
Sleep Medicine in 1998. With no restrictions on his next choice to
live and continue his career, he returned – it was an easy decision.
He was voted to be
the Chairman of Medicine Department between 1999-2000, then was
asked to take the directorship of the Sleep Laboratory and has been
in that position since. The Sleep lab has been through 2
re-accreditation site visits and passed successfully. During the
last site visit this year the Sleep Laboratory was upgraded to a
Sleep Center fully accredited by the American Academy of Sleep
Medicine.

Meet More of our Physicians:
What is noticeable when you meet our physicians collectively is they are from
across the United States, different cities in Alabama, and Dr. Foster was raised
in Selma. Those who visit and discover us for the first time see our
uniqueness, and find Selma just as compelling as people with intimate knowledge
of our community. If you are a medical professional considering a new position,
rest assured that you will fit in here and be welcomed, no matter where you are
from!

For physicians
seeking practice opportunities,
a community’s current status, economic outlook, and future promise,
are very important considerations. Community leaders have created
“Team Selma” to combine their abilities and resources. We’re
growing, and plans, and funds, are also designated for the
revitalization of our Waterfront district downtown.

It’s not just urban and suburban escapees coming to Selma for
our perfect lifestyle, geography, cost-of living, and easy-access to
amenities without the big-city problems. Wired for fiber optics, a
mature railway, sewer and water, an industrial park with a 10,000’
airstrip for the largest planes which was a former military station,
and cheap land, are factors laying the foundation for a modern
renaissance of Selma as “the perfect spot” to live
and work.
